The Day Pikachu Said Real Words

Josh and Rowan: recorded by the host.

Host 1 Okay you guys, in one Pokemon movie Pikachu says real words like actual human words. After 20 years of just Pika and Pikachu. No way this is random Pokemon facts. I'm Josh it's Friday. So it's anime and movies. Today is all about Ash and his Pikachu.

Host 1 So the movie is Pokemon the movie I choose you from 2017. Ash asks Pikachu why it won't get in its Pokeball. And Pikachu answers that it always wants to be with him. In Japanese theaters, audiences gasped. They called it the most emotional moment of the movie.

Host 1 But English speaking fans mostly thought it was weird. What do you think? Sweet or weird? Here's something else. The Pikachu you hear in the English anime is voiced by Ikue Otani. She's the same Japanese actress as in the Japanese version.

Host 1 She's voiced Pikachu since the anime began in 1997. Pikachu only says its own name so her voice could stay in the English version. But when Pikachu said a real sentence in that movie it needed an English voice.

Host 1 So the English version brought in a different actress Kate Bristol for that one line. Just one line okay next Ash's Pikachu never evolved and that was Pikachu's choice. In Vermilion City in the episode Electric Shock Showdown Pikachu turned down a Thunder Stone Ash kept that stone all the way to Sinnoh in Kanto Pikachu lost to Lieutenant Surge's Raichu then it won the rematch still a Pikachu years later in Pika and Goliath a trainer named shows Raichu beat Pikachu that night Pikachu glared at the Thunder Stone and turned away from it then Pikachu beat a Raichu in a rematch and Team Rocket swiped the stone because even they thought Pikachu should stay a Pikachu story two Ash's very first hat the red and white Pokemon League Expo cap it was one of only a hundred given away by the Pokemon League a hundred Ash says he sent in about a million postcards to win it and Misty she only sent one that's why Ash goes wild when a manky grabs the hat and plays keep away with it in Primeape goes bananas and early sketches for the show gave Ash a hat exactly like Red's from the Game Boy games wild fact time in 2014 one million 165,140 people played the same single game of Pokemon Red together on a stream called Twitch Plays Pokemon viewers typed button commands into the chat and the game did them so more than a million people were steering one character that set a Guinness World Record and on August 11th 2012 19 year old Ray Rizzo won the Pokemon World Championship for the third year in a row that's a Guinness World Record too then he showed up as a character in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 a real champion inside the game riddle time unknown is a Pokemon shaped like letters there's one unknown for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet then two more forms were added a question mark and an exclamation mark so how many forms does unknown come in 26 28 or 30

Host 1 okay ready 28 26 letters plus the question mark and the exclamation mark that's the show for today tomorrow is Saturday so it's origins and creators I can't wait be here see you tomorrow bye this was Josh
