Host 1 Okay, before I even say hi, I need you to know something. There's a Pokemon you can only evolve by turning your game upside down. Not a button. Not an item. You actually flip the whole thing over. I know. It sounds fake, it's not, just remember it because it's gonna matter.

Host 1 Hi, this is random Pokemon facts. I'm Josh. And it's Thursday, so you know what that means, it's Pokedex deep dive. Okay, back to the upside down Pokemon. It's Inkay. Here's how it works.

Host 1 You level up Inkay at level 30 or higher, while you're holding your game system upside down. No button press can do it. You have to flip it. And on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, it only works in handheld mode with no other controllers connected.

Host 1 That's because the game checks which way the Joy-Cons are facing so the Joy-Con have to be upside down too. And this is this totally fits Inkay. In Pokemon Violet, it's Pokedex entry says hanging upside down helps its blood flow clears its mind and makes psychic moves way stronger.

Host 1 So basically upside down Inkay is smarter Inkay.

Host 1 When Inkay evolves it turns into Malamar and Malamar has a move called Topsy-Turvy flips every stat change on the Pokemon it hits so say you boosted your attack a bunch Topsy-Turvy hits you and all those boosts turn into drops that's so mean I love it Inkay and Malamar both learn it at level 15 and it never misses unless the target is out of reach in the middle of a move like dig or fly in Japanese the name just means flip just flip that's perfect when it came out in Gen 6 Inkay and Malamar were the only Pokemon that could learn it and they stayed the only ones all the way until Gen 8 okay quick guess how many glowing spots do you think Inkay has

Blink bye the lights also help it lure in food and here's the coolest part Inkay uses complicated rhythms and patterns of flashes to talk to other Inkay like secret blinking messages that's why Inkay reacts on instinct to do to anything nearby that gives off light or echoing sounds okay here's one more Pokemon that doesn't something nobody expects Nincada evolves into Ninjask at level 20 or higher normal right but when it evolves a second Pokemon can show up in your party for free it's called Shedinja to get it you need an empty spot in your party and a spare Pokeball no empty spot no Shedinja and here's the weird part Shedinja is the empty shell that Nincada leaves behind it's based on a husk a cicada sheds when it grows up it's old shell becomes a whole Pokemon Shedinja shows up with no nickname so if you want to name it you have to visit a name raider and that's only shiny if the Nincada was shiny
